Eminem was pictured over Christmas looking ill and overweight as he struggled against a mystery virus. Even his long-lost mum came out saying she was worried for him (although she was promoting a book about him at the time).

The rapper suffered from pneumonia but sources close to the star say he is fighting back and recording new tracks with big studio pal Dr Dre.

An insider told the New York Post: ‘He has been cutting new tracks with Dr. Dre. They still have a ways to go, but so far it's really good.’

One of his reps confirms he is also fighting the flab: ‘He's always in the studio and has worked with a trainer before.’

The end of last year was a tricky time for the wonder boy of rap. Ill health and a tell-all biography from his mum, followed by news she was very ill too caused considerable strain.
